Flood Asset Inspection Training in Scotland
In Scotland, under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act, Local Authorities are responsible for the assessment of water bodies and have a duty to carry out clearance and repair works. Visual Flood Asset Inspection is a tried and tested methodology for consistently inspecting flood assets and making justifiable recommendations for clearance and/or repair works.
It is important that Local Authority inspectors are competent to undertake this role and capability can be developed through formal training and accreditation delivered by RAB Consultants. RAB is the exclusive flood risk consultancy that provides industry recognised training and accreditation in the UK. Accreditation lasts for 5 years.
Our training provides guidance and tools to help inspectors:
- Consistently inspect and record all the elements that form an asset.
- Give a structural condition grade (on a scale of 1 to 5) for the most common types of flood risk asset using the Condition Assessment Manual.
- Recommend and prioritise repair works based on the criticality of the defect to the overall performance of the asset
- Consistently assess the conveyance capacity of culverts and channels and prioritise clearance works.
