Rebecca Smith appointed to national Scientific and Technical Advisory Group

The team at RAB are proud to announce that one of our Resilience Consultants, Dr Rebecca Smith, has been selected to join the Scientific and Technical Advisory Group (STAG) of the British Hydrological Society (BHS). The group has been tasked with supporting the delivery of the UK Flood Hydrology Roadmap.

BHS provides interest, scholarship and good practice in scientific and applied aspects of hydrology and fosters the involvement of its members in national and international activities. The Flood Hydrology Roadmap was published by the Environment Agency in 2022, along with an action plan to achieve it. Developed by and for the UK flood hydrology community, it sets out a 25-year vision for flood hydrology in the UK.

Nicola Hemming, Principal Consultant at RAB is naturally delighted of the appointment: “It is great that the BHS have recognised Rebecca’s technical expertise in hydrology as well as her passion to improve the way we manage flood hazards in the future. We are confident she will be a real asset in helping to shape the vision for flood hydrology in the UK, and look forward to hearing how the roadmap develops.”

Rebecca first worked at RAB in 2014 as an Assistant Flood Risk Consultant. She then studied and completed her PhD at Durham University before working on a Lecturer Scholarship at the University of Aberdeen. She re-joined RAB in September 2020 and works within the Flood Forecasting and Warning sub-sector of the Resilience Team.
