Businesses Urged to Prepare for Proposed Terror Legislation
The Resilience Team at RAB have been closely following recent developments in relation to The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Draft Bill, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law.
We discussed this in a post last year (Martyn’s Law: how will it impact venues and events of more than 100 people?), and have been working with industry professionals to provide guidance on the impact that the legislation will have for premises, venues and event organisers.
This week several of our team attended The Security Event at the NEC in Birmingham. One of the features was a conference on ‘Martyns Law: Inspiration, Information and Implementation’ which included updates and insights from Paul Spicer (Merlin Entertainments) and Nick Aldworth (Director of Counter -Terrorism, Intelligence and Risk AT Carlisle Support Services).
Nick discussed how he will be joining the upcoming campaign effort from 7th-22nd May, which will see campaigners and family members of the Manchester Arena victims walk from the Manchester Arena to London Downing Street in order to put pressure on the government to move forward with Martyns Law and ‘demand law tightening security at public venues’.
Speaking on behalf of Merlin Entertainments, Paul gave a clear message that businesses and organisations involved in the venue and events sector ‘shouldn’t wait, start to get ready now’ in regards to preparing for emergencies. He also stressed that training and exercising of plans, evacuation procedures and public address systems are a vital part of the process.
The team at RAB have considerable experience and expertise supporting businesses and organisations in all aspects of emergency planning and training.
