Staying Ahead with Hydraulic Modelling: Insights from the Flood Modeller Conference
Hydraulic modelling is a crucial tool for our projects, enabling us to benchmark flood risk and explore risk reduction options. Staying updated with technological advancements and connecting with industry peers is essential for our continued success.
Recently, our specialist engineer, Nathan Parsons, attended the Flood Modeller Conference in Leeds, hosted by Jacobs. Nathan highlighted several exciting improvements in the upcoming Flood Modeller Version 8, set to launch in 2025:
- Transition to C#: Moving from Delphi to C# coding promises enhanced reliability and functionality, supported by a larger developer community.
- GIS Enhancements: Faster loading of large files and support for evolving GIS formats will streamline data handling. Improved web mapping and layer styling will boost visualization and analysis.
- Introduction of ‘Super Units’: This feature will simplify bridge modelling, offering a more intuitive experience. Also, the new 2D Flex solver with Quadtree analysis allows for variable 2D cell sizes, improving model resolution and optimizing run times.
These advancements will significantly enhance the accuracy and efficiency of our flood modelling efforts, leading to better flood risk management. We look forward to the launch of Version 8!
