‘Nature Based Solutions’ Feature in the Latest Groundwater Rising Podcast
Reducing the potential impacts of flooding often requires implementing a range of mitigation measures with consideration of the flooding source, pathway and receptors.
Project Groundwater is applying this holistic approach across the pilot communities within the project, and alongside the focus on resilience that RAB are leading on. The project also has a specific workstream focused on researching how Nature Based Solutions could be implemented in new and innovative ways to help reduce the impacts of groundwater flooding at a catchment scale.
The latest Groundwater Rising podcast focuses on this topic, with host Katie Hargrave-Smith discussing the subject with Dr Imogen Barnsley (JBA Consulting & Project Groundwater), who shares her cutting edge research into what role nature-based solutions can play in dealing with groundwater flooding. Her studies are some of the first in this specific area and reveal both fascinating insights and useful future strategies. The podcast can be accessed via the link below:
Nature-based Solutions: Can They Help With Groundwater Flooding?‘
The podcast is part of a series of episodes produced by the team at Project Groundwater, which RAB have been involved with as Partner and Workstream Lead. Project Groundwater is a Defra funded programme designed to support communities in nine high-risk flood areas of the Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs. It is part of a wider £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programme managed by the Environment Agency. All the programmes will drive innovation in flood and coastal resilience and adaptation to a changing climate. Further details, including our appointment as Lead Partner on the Resilience Workstream.
