RAB are pleased to announce the successful completion of a comprehensive Flood Risk Assessment and flood risk modelling project for a proposed development at Kings Road, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire. The project involves transforming a section of an existing car park into a formalised motor home parking area. Given the site’s natural high flood risk from both tidal surges and the nearby Buck Beck watercourse, our team undertook detailed assessments to ensure the safety and viability of the development.
Utilising the Environment Agency’s Flood Modeller – Tuflow model, we adapted it to test various flood defence breach scenarios along Buck Beck. Our findings demonstrated that, even in the event of a major breach, the intervening high ground would prevent floodwaters from reaching the proposed site and access points. This data, combined with other modelled information, informed our Flood Risk Assessment and led to the creation of a detailed flood warning and evacuation plan. Our analysis concluded that the proposed development is suitable for the flood risk and will not exacerbate flooding elsewhere.
We are delighted to report that planning approval has now been obtained for this scheme. This achievement underscores our commitment to ensuring that development of land with an underlying flood risk includes appropriate risk management measures verified by high quality data.
