Flood Groups: What Are They and How Can They Help?

Effective flood resilience at a community level encompasses all aspects of managing and mitigating the impacts of flooding by enacting a local flood plan. The measures set out in these plans goes far beyond simply relying on physical flood defences and Property Flood Resilience measures. Flood groups and wardens play a critical role at a local level to monitor flood risks, communicate with their communities and implement these action plans to minimise the impacts to people and property during a flood. These groups will typically hold a wealth of local information about the flood mechanisms and pathways in their communities and understanding of the trigger levels when specific actions need to be implemented.
