RAB Consultants is dedicated to increasing resilience and reducing flood risk.
We are seeking an Assistant Flood Risk Management Consultant to assist with company Flood Risk Management activities, performing assigned project tasks under supervision to achieve project objectives.
Our clients include government agencies, local authorities and private companies both in the UK and around the globe. We have delivered and continue to support a number of major projects for our clients and have a growing workload.
We are looking for an individual with a Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or Geography (or related). Experience in PFR/Flood risk management and/or CIWEM certified Environment Agency PFR Foundation training would be advantageous.
The applicant should:
Be able to regularly travel and work anywhere the UK

Be numerate and logical with good attention to detail, and enjoy analysing and solving problems by applying sound engineering/scientific judgement
Have strong organisational skills and attention to detail with a proven ability to plan project tasks and own work.
Be a good verbal and written communicator, who can convey sometimes complex issues succinctly in plain English.
Be competent in the use of relevant IT and software and be able to work with limited supervision.
The successful candidate will assist in the following key tasks:
Survey buildings at risk from flooding to identify routes of water ingress, recommend PFR measures and complete post installation audits to confirm correct installation of PFR measures.
Identify risks arising from installing PFR measures, including build-up of toxic gas from heating appliances and from Radon and landfill sources.
Investigate and analyse flood risk from any source using existing data, hydrological and hydraulic theories, calculations and computational models.
Attend community meetings to present and explain PFR measures and process. Interview property owners/tenants to determine property flood mechanism and their needs and constraints.
Support the production health & safety and contract documents (specifications, bill of quantities, CDM risk assessments, Pre-Construction Information etc.), supervise delivery of services by suppliers/ contractors in accordance with the contract.
Assess options and design flood alleviation and sustainable foul & surface water drainage solutions in accordance with industry and company guidance (e.g. SuDS Manual, Sewers for Adoption etc.).
Write technical reports with appropriate conclusions and recommendations using plain English. (PFR, Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, Project Appraisal Reports, Hydrological and Hydraulic model studies, Section 19 flood Investigations).
Inspect and assess the condition of flood risk assets in accordance with the flood asset visual Condition Assessment Manual and associated procedures.
Complete Public Safety Risk Assessments in the water environment in accordance with company and industry practice.
Works to deliver projects from any sector to specified quality, time and expenditure budgets, feeding back challenges or opportunities to maximise business revenue in a timely manner.
